Saturday Shopping

Today Matt and I had a day of errand-running, so I threw on something comfy-cozy and headed out the door! I just bought this duster sweater from a local boutique in Cotati, and I had to get some wear-time! It’s a beautiful oatmeal color, and it’s SO comfy. More details below! We haven’t spent some time together in a while, so it was nice to get out together and run around town. We went to pick up my wedding ring from the jewelers, as I hadn’t had it cleaned in over a year! (shh…). We then ran some Christmas gifts errands for our out-of-towners so we could get them in the mail to make it by Christmas. Tonight we’re going to be baking some cookies and watching TV together! Honestly, it has been so long since we could actually spend time with each other. I’m constantly working or at school so our schedules haven’t lined up for a while. I’m so excited to be spending some one-on-one quality time with the hubs. OK back to business. This is my FIRST outfit post on The Down Low! I’m so excited / nervous / shy / impressed about this. I’m a photographer, so I’m usually behind […]

How to Decompress & be Stress-Free for the Holidays

Well, here they are! The holidays are here once again and with it comes a plethora of feelings. Excitement, joy, sadness, stress, etc. The holidays bring up a lot of emotions, whether you’re hosting your first holiday Christmas party and feeling nervous, or seeing your out-of-town family members who you haven’t seen in awhile, to remembering those who you cannot celebrate with anymore. I know all of those feelings too well. Whatever your situation may be, my heart is with you! It’s especially important to remember to take care of you, who is busy taking care of others. Today, I’ve gathered some tips, tricks, and some affordable items to help you decompress and reduce your holiday stress so you can spend more time enjoying the season. RELAX. I know, easier said than done. But seriously, force yourself to take a chill pill. I’m especially bad at this, but there comes a time when you have to lock yourself in a room for even 5 minutes to just breathe and collect your thoughts. When you’re feeling overwhelmed or distracted, take 5-10 minutes and just be. For me, it helps if I sit on the floor and close my eyes. I leave […]

Four Ways to Show Gratitude this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Did it sneak up on everyone, or just me? I often find myself caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and become preoccupied with gifts, hosting, and working (a lot!). This year, I’m making more of a conscious effort to be still and to remember to stop and be thankful for my health, my life, and everyone around me. The holiday seasons are getting more and more shifted into retail holidays instead of celebrating the reason for the holidays: each other. I am a huge advocate for spending time with family and just being with one another. I, myself, am guilty of getting caught up in the things that don’t matter. And before starting a family of my own, I want to get in a better habit of spending quality time with my husband, friends, and family. This year, I want to share my ideas on how to show gratitude this Thanksgiving, and to remind everyone just how important the holidays really are.   B E   T H A N K F U L . . . 1. The Best Makeup Box of All-Time

W E L C O M E Welcome back! Today’s post features a brand I am very proud to support. I have been a BoxyCharm subscriber for about a year now, and it is hands-down the BEST makeup box I’ve subscribed to. I am hard-core in LOVE with this box… So, funny story, this box subscription was actually given to me as a Christmas gift from my boss last year (2016). She bought me a full year’s subscription and I just about died. This year, she asked me if I wanted it again for Christmas and I said, “Yes, please!!!” How could you not? W H Y   I   L O V E   B O X Y C H A R M Okay, let’s get down to business. First things first, BoxyCharm does not mess around. They send you full-size (yes, you read that correctly) products. None of those tiny little sample sizes that are one-and-done. Nope, none of that nonsense. Every month, each box is curated with full-size beauty, skincare, or hair products or a beauty tool. Each month is different, and you never get any repeats. This box is where I first discovered Luxie brand makeup […]

It’s Finally Here! The Down Low Blog

My name is Danielle, and this is the Down Low. I’ve made a decision to finally start a blog, after dreaming of starting one for years. I love all things fashion, makeup, and home decor, maybe a little too much. So, without further ado, this is the Down Low.   W H O   I   A M I am a graphic designer // student // wife // dog mom by day, and ambitious // exhausted // hungry blogger at night. Growing up, I always loved fashion. And by fashion, I don’t mean couture fashion houses. No, I loved everything. Heck, you could take me to Kmart or Mervyn’s (RIP) and I’d fall in love with at least five things before my mom dragged me out of the store almost bankrupt! I knew I really loved fashion when I bought a blazer from H&M during back-to-school shopping before my junior year. Now, back then, no one in high school wore blazers. Blazers were more appropriate for work, you know, business casual. Well, Danielle had to have it. It took me a minute to muster up the courage to wear it to school, but one day, I did it. I had also purchased […]
